How to Keep Your Skin Healthy in REALLY Cold Weather

Anne JohnsonComment

Living in Minnesota is amazing, except for that little thing called winter… Unless you live under a rock, you have probably heard about the polar vortex sweeping across the Midwest over these last few days. We are talking FREEZING COLD temperatures. Lol the high yesterday was -24, I’m sorry WHAT?! Keeping my skin hydrated has been a major struggle, but below I’ve compiled a few tips and tricks that help keep my skin looking and feeling hydrated.

MOSITURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE

All I can say is moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE. Lotions and hydrating oils are your best friend. Just like you need more layers when going outside, your face needs more layers (of moisturizers) on it too! The best time to do that is after a shower. Your pores are more open and soak up your products better.

INVEST IN A HUMIDIFIER

If you don’t already own a humidifier I suggest getting one. Cold air rips the humidity right from our skin so using a humidifier, especially during the cold months, can help keep your skin looking and feeling hydrated. The humidifier I use is an oil diffuser plus humidifier and I could not recommend it more. It humidifies that air and with just a few drops of oil, can instantly bring a relaxing aroma to any room.

DRINK WATER

Drinking water is seriously the key to great skin. So DRINK UP and get ready to reap the benefits.

USE LUKEWARM WATER

Use lukewarm water when washing your face. I know, I know. There is nothing quite as satisfying as washing your face in hot water after a long cold day, but doing so is just striping more moisture from your skin. Use lukewarm water to avoid drier is out.
